Macaron Towers vs. Tiered Cakes
Every dessert table needs one thing that makes people stop and pull out their phones. The question is which one.
Here is how to pick.
Go with a tiered cake when you want a moment.
Cakes come with built-in ceremony. There is a cutting. There is a photo. Everyone gathers. If your celebration has a program and you want a beat in it that belongs to just you, the cake gives you that.
Cakes also carry personalization better than anything else. A name. A date. A design pulled from your invitations. Your favorite architecture piped in buttercream. If the centerpiece needs to mean something, cake wins.
Go with a macaron tower when you want flow.
No cutting, no serving line, no waiting. Guests walk up, take one, keep moving. For events where people are mingling the whole night, a tower keeps the room in motion.
Towers also photograph beautifully from every angle, which cakes do not always do. And they scale up easily. Adding fifty more guests means adding more macarons, not redesigning the whole thing.
Now the practical stuff.
Guest count. Under 50, either works. Over 150, a tower or a tower-plus-small-cake combination usually serves the room better.
Venue. Outdoor summer event? Buttercream and heat are not friends. Macarons hold up far better in warm rooms and open-air tents. Air conditioned ballroom in November? Cake all day.
Season. Summer and spring favor towers, light and bright and heat-friendly. Fall and winter favor cake, richer flavors, warmer moment.
Budget. Neither is automatically cheaper. It depends on size and detail. A simple two-tier cake often costs less than a full tower. An elaborate sculpted cake often costs more.
Or, honestly, do both.
This is what we recommend most often. A smaller statement cake for the cutting moment, with a macaron tower beside it doing the heavy lifting for guest volume. You get the ceremony and the flow. The cake stays intimate and detailed instead of being scaled up just to feed everyone.
Two centerpieces, two heights, one gorgeous table.
